2020 was my 50th anniversary of being an endurance athlete. when I started running in 1970, there were no running shoes much less running stores. I ran in my army boots for several years until I upgraded to pair of orange boat shoes. clearly remember them. I bought this upgrade at Sears. They were orange and I paid $5.95 for them. I got my money worth from the shoes in that I ran in them for a couple of years.
Frank Shorter’s gold medal in 1972 Olympic Marathon inspired me. In 1976, he won the silver medal in Olympic Marathon and I was again inspired by his achievement but this time I did something about it. I completed the 1977 Marine Coprs Marathon in Washington, D.C., in 3:28.
